Analysis of Digipack: The Weeknd

  1. The font type of the artist is bolder and in white meant to gain the attention of the audience. The artist name is also in different font to the title of the album. This differentiates between them and creates significant from the album name.
  2. A smaller image of the artist gains the attention f the buyer straight away, and as there isn’t a large amount of content on the CD cover it forces the buyer to look directly at the picture. The picture is in black and white, which is a main theme of the CD case, however as there are a Varity of changing shades of black and white it stands out more.
  3. Parental advisory sticker: the purpose id to warn the potential buyer of the CD that there is strong language or language that could accuse offense. Always seen in the right bottom hand corner of the front CD cover.
  4. The Three diamond at the bottom of the image hold no connection to the artist or his brand, and therefore are only there for aesthetic, however is also adds to the classy and edgy feel of the CD cover and who the artist is, without being over complicated.
  5. Faceless girl has her hands over the artist, who’s facing away from the camera. This could associate with the theme of women and betrayal that is evident throughout the album.
  6. The black background is reflective of the dark style of music this artist makes, touching on subjects such as women, drugs, crime, sex, and power.

  1. List of tracks on each CD linking in the title ‘Trilogy’, as there are 3 CD’s in the pack, which is uncommon for musical tracks which normally have 1 or 2.
  2. The Artist Picture is shown again in a shadow like figure, which could link to the Album theme of duplicity and the darker themes touched upon.
  3. The record label ' Universal Republic Records' logo is on the back to signify its involvement in the albums creation. The Logo is smaller sowing that its not as important as the other pieces of information on the album back.

What Is A Digipak

A Digipack is the alternative to standard jewel case packaging
Made of thick card, that allows a graphic display. Originally used for the album packaging of leading musicians, now digipak's are able to be used for CD and DVD projects. A digipak normally has three parts
A clear positive of a Digipak is their aesthetic appeal, as they originally were unusual and created a premium feel. Also as the digipak has 3 sections there is more space to put information about the artist and the product at hand. Digipak's where considered the more aesthetic casing however they are more expensive than the traditional liner and plastic jewel casing.
Furthermore Digipaks are considered more environmentally friendly than Jewel cases because they are made of biodegradable material as well as sometimes being made of recycled papers.
Digipaks are still in wide use now and are often used in special edition CD or DVD release. the emergence of Vinyl records coming back into fashion means that Digipaks are being used more often.
